Durham College students de-stress with DCSA Craft Night

Durham College students took a break from their studies and embraced their creative side at this month’s DCSA Craft Night, held on March 5 in the Student Centre. Around 30 students attended the event, where they crafted crystal succulent plants—sparkly, decorative pieces perfect for dorm rooms or windowsills.

The event is part of a broader effort by DCSA to provide stress relief activities for students, particularly during busy academic periods.

Olivia Flanagan, a DCSA worker and event organizer, noted the popularity of craft nights at the college. “Our craft nights are always a hit. The biggest turnout we’ve had was 75 students, which is amazing,” she said. “It’s a fun way for students to relax and take a break from studying.”

Marney Elliott, a local craftsperson, led this month’s session. She was inspired by a craft she saw online and decided to teach it to Durham students. “I saw these crystal succulent plants on Facebook and thought it would be fun to share them with the students here,” said Elliott. “They’re sparkly and pretty, and a nice addition to dorm rooms.”

DCSA’s next creative event, a Paint Party led by local artist Olivia Morin, is set for March 19 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Student Centre.
