Mulligans, an indoor golf simulator facility in Whitby, Ont., is redefining how residents can enjoy golf year-round. As golf enthusiasts face harsh Canadian winters, Mulligans has created an innovative solution: advanced simulators that offer an authentic golfing experience no matter the season. With its unique technology, vibrant atmosphere and community-focused approach, Mulligans is becoming a standout business in the Durham Region.
Now in its second year of business, Mulligans, located at 701 Brock St. N., has drawn attention with its state-of-the-art ‘Golf Zone’ simulators, which differ from the commonly used Trackman systems. According to Mulligans’ employee Cadence King, this type of technology helps give the facility a competitive edge over competitors like Tracer.
“We use the Golf Zone simulators as opposed to most places nearby [that] use Trackman, and Golf Zone has a sophisticated mat that will lift and tilt based on where you are in the course.” The goal is to deliver a more realistic experience to its customers.
Aside from the technology itself, Mulligans is staffed during all business hours, unlike many simulators that are open 24/7 but do not employ any staff. King said this helps Mulligans stand out, putting customers at ease knowing someone is always on standby if help is needed.
Beyond the technical appeal, Mulligans has cultivated a welcoming space for diverse customers. With a fully licensed bar, families, friends and sports enthusiasts can enjoy the facility for casual outings or organized events like bachelor parties and corporate functions. Mulligans also runs weekly leagues, including its current fall league, and hosts special events such as the upcoming “Ugly Sweater Christmas Scramble.”
The inclusion of a fully stocked bar has enhanced the Mulligans experience, creating a relaxed environment where patrons can unwind and connect. “Customers really like the fact that we have the bar and that they can come in and have a few drinks with friends,” King said. Mulligans focuses not just on the golf but more so the experience as a whole.
Mulligans’ contributions extend beyond its core business hours. By donating gift cards to local raffles and partnering with organizations like Durham Epilepsy, Mulligans actively supports community initiatives. King said they recently hosted a staff party and received great feedback and added they’re always looking for ways to engage with the community and give back.
Allowing players to refine their skills during the off-season encourages a stronger connection to the sport, making the transition to outdoor play smoother when the weather improves. “We promote golfing throughout the winter season so that when people are ready to go back to golfing in person, they can be all ready,” King said.
In addition to golf, Mulligans attracts sports fans with its game-day atmosphere. With a TV at each of its six bays, televised games such as Thursday Night Football have become a significant draw, further helping the business in the sports community.
Mulligans plays a growing role in Whitby’s economy. By generating consistent foot traffic during the winter, the business boosts activity in the area by providing consumers with a different experience than other simulators offer. Its events and tournaments attract visitors and create regulars, benefiting nearby establishments and solidifying Mulligans as a key player in the local recreation industry.
As Mulligans continues to expand its offerings and grow its connection to the region, the business is positioned to thrive. Whether it’s perfecting a swing on advanced simulators, enjoying a drink with friends, or enjoying a night out, Mulligans offers something for everyone.
