The Office is a great show

The Office is a great show because of its storyline, characters, and production level. If you’re looking for a show that will make you laugh, cry, and not want to leave your couch, this show is for you.

The Office was created by Greg Daniels, Ricky Gervais, and Stephen Merchant. Its nine seasons aired on NBC from 2005-2013 and provided fans with memories that will last a lifetime.

Storyline:

The storyline of The Office is unique. A documentary crew from PBS is sent to observe and film the lives of employees at a small paper company called Dunder Mifflin in Scranton, PA.

Although this plot sounds rather simple, The Office takes this idea of a mockumentary to another level. A majority of the show takes place inside the Dunder Mifflin office, but the crew also allows viewers inside the employees’ personal lives.

The camera crew captures these employees’ lives for nine years and even films things that aren’t meant to be on camera, which creates incredible drama. The plot of The Office provides viewers with comedy, drama, romance, and includes relatable characters.

Probably the biggest compliment to The Office is the fact that it doesn’t matter if you watched it in 2005 or watch it in 2020, it is still relatable. This is due to a complex, entertaining, and well executed storyline.

Characters:

The Office features so many standout characters that it’s almost impossible to discuss them all at once.

The most iconic character in the show has to be Michael Scott, Dunder Mifflin’s regional manager, played by Steve Carrell. Scott’s unique leadership style and inappropriate, at times, behaviour provides some of the greatest moments in the show. Countless “that’s what she said,” jokes and useless meetings are just some examples of why Michael Scott is a timeless character.

The main love story from The Office involves Jim Halpert, played by John Krasinski, and Pam Beesly, played by Jenna Fischer. Jim is a witty salesman and Pam is the loveable receptionist. Their journey together is probably the most rewarding one throughout the show.

Dwight Schrute, Dunder Mifflin’s top salesman, played by Rainn Wilson, is everything from a black belt in karate, to a simple beet farmer. Schrute’s personal life might be the most interesting and mysterious part of The Office.

These four showcase the many outstanding and complex characters The Office possesses.

Production:

As previously mentioned, The Office is filmed like a documentary, and it is executed to perfection.

Cameramen often interact with the characters, providing a true documentary feel. Characters are interviewed by the crew every episode, and their answers provide context for their actions, like an actual documentary would.

This unique film style makes you want to check your own TV guide to see if the documentary is actually airing.

Final Thoughts:

The bottom line is The Office is incredible. The first episode will leave you in tears in joy, and the final episode will cause you to endlessly sob.

If for some reason you haven’t, please do yourself a favour and watch this timeless classic.
