Oshawa ComiCon brings pop culture to life with cosplay and community

Oshawa ComiCon 2025 hit the YWCA Durham on Feb. 22 and brought an eclectic mix of comics, collectibles, cosplay and pure pop culture. The event was the perfect escape for fans looking to dive deep into their favourite fandoms.

Beyond all the fandom fun, Oshawa ComiCon also gave back to the community. Fans who brought non-perishable food items for the local food bank were treated to raffle tickets for a chance to win some prizes, including WWE action figures and rare paintings hand crafted by professional vendors.

Loue Nuwame, the event organizer and a regular attendee, highlighted the importance of Oshawa ComiCon, emphasizing its easy accessibility and welcoming atmosphere. “Most people don’t want to go to big expensive conventions that you have in Toronto, the brilliance of the pop culture show is that it brings the ComiCon experience to the people at an affordable price,” he said.

While this event happens annually, this year’s event introduced some new elements. Special guests joined the fun, including Alyson Court, best known as Loonette the Clown from The Big Comfy Couch, and WWE legend Jimmy Hart, whose iconic voice brought some wrestling memories to the crowd.

Attendees had the chance to meet their childhood heroes, grab autographs and hear behind-the-scenes stories from the industry.

“I can’t get enough of the energy in here,” said Michael, an attendee. “From the cosplay to the comics, everyone’s just in here vibing with their loved ones. It’s a crazy experience meeting people you grew up watching.”

The Oshawa ComiCon 2025 is heading to more locations across the region this month, including Whitby on March 8 and Ajax on March 9. Stay tuned in to their website and social media for updates on where you can get your next ComiCon fix.
