Roger Gordon, a teacher and community volunteer, is running for MPP in Whitby for the Liberal party. His focus is on healthcare, education, and empowering young voters.
Teaching civics and history helped him understand the importance of political engagement and positive change. As a long-term educator, Gordon draws his inspiration from his students.
“They would say things like ‘Mr. Gordon, you can do it!’” he said.
If elected, Gordon’s primary focus will be on addressing Whitby’s healthcare needs
“People want a hospital here in Whitby for the growing population. It will be centrally located, so that people from Ajax, Pickering, can access it,” he said.
As an educator, Gordon also sees gaps in the educational system that he hopes to address.
“We need more teachers, we need more ECE’s, we need more social workers, psychologists. The bottom line is we need more resources in education and healthcare,” he said, highlighting his commitment to improving learning environments.
Gordon is particularly passionate about engaging young voters.
“If young people don’t vote, older generations will keep making decisions for them. We need them engaged in this process,” he explained. Gordon believes his experience working with youth positions him uniquely to inspire the next generation of voters.
As a Liberal, Gordon’s vision for Whitby includes better healthcare, improved educational resources, and a more engaged younger generation.
As election day approaches, he hopes his community-focused approach will resonate with voters.
