Doug Ford’s government calls early Ontario election

Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, Edith Dumont, has accepted Doug Ford’s request to dissolve the legislature, triggering an early election.

The election is taking place over a year ahead of schedule and will be the first provincial winter election since 1981.

Ford says the resignation of Prime Minster Justin Trudeau and impending tariff threats from Donald Trump have been some of the biggest motivators of the early election.

“The attack is coming against our families, our businesses, our communities, and with a strong mandate, we will be able to fight with Donald Trump,” said Ford.
