The iPhone 12 mini is the ‘bite-sized’ phone everyone has been waiting for and it will be a bestseller.

Apple introduced the iPhone 12 lineup last week. Just like last year’s lineup, it includes an iPhone 12, an iPhone 12 Pro and an iPhone 12 Pro Max. Along with the standard models, they introduced the smallest iPhone ever to be made, the iPhone 12 mini.

The iPhone 12 mini is the perfect phone for people who want the newest iPhone, a great camera, 5G connectivity and a super fast processor but do not want to burn a hole in their pocket.

Display

The iPhone 12 mini boasts a 5.4-inch OLED display, a 2340×1080 resolution with a 1200 nits max brightness. That is a big jump from the iPhone 11’s LCD display which only had an 828×1792 resolution and was capped at 625 nits brightness.

The new iPhone can display more contrast and is incredibly colour accurate. The OLED screen is capable of displaying brighter whites and darker blacks.

Camera

The iPhone 12 mini has the same two rear cameras that the more expensive iPhone 12 boasts. The 12-megapixel f/1.6 main camera along with a 12 megapixel f/2.4 ultra wide camera with the ability to shoot 4k videos at 60 frames per second.

Mini also has a front facing 12-megapixel camera with a f/2.2 aperture.

As per Apple’s announcement, these cameras have significantly improved night mode. The iPhone 12 mini’s cameras can pick up 27 per cent more light than its predecessor iPhone 11 could.

Ceramic shield protection

In the announcement, Apple highlighted that all the new iPhones come with a ‘ceramic shield’ protection.

Apple maintains that iPhone already had the toughest glass in a smartphone when they launched the iPhone 11. With the introduction of ceramic shield, which is made by introducing Nano-ceramic crystals into the phone’s glass screen, Apple claims that the iPhone 12’s screens are “tougher than any smartphone glass” and makes the new iPhones more durable than ever.

Apple claims they have quadrupled the drop performance which implies that the new iPhones are 4 times less likely to break.

The A14 Chip

All the new iPhones, ranging from the iPhone 12 mini to the iPhone 12 Pro Max have apple’s latest A14 bionic chip.

The A14 chip is based on 5nm manufacturing process whereas last years A13 chip was based on 7nm. In simple terms, the new A14 chip can fit in 11.8 billion transistors whereas its predecessor could fit 8.5 billion transistors. The extra transistors help in up to 30 per cent power efficiency and a 15 per cent performance boost.

Apple says, “A14 Bionic is the fastest chip in a smartphone.” This has been proven true by the several benchmark tests conducted by tech enthusiasts around the world.

With all that said, the shape of the iPhone 12 mini reminds us of the iPhone 5, which was one of the best iPhones Apple ever sold. The shape and compact size add a reminiscing value to the phone. Even though the phone is compact in appearance from the exterior, it has the same specs as the bigger iPhone 12 models.

Compared with other new models of the iPhone, the iPhone 12 mini, retailing at $979 is an affordable choice for anyone looking to buy the latest iPhone without burning a hole in your pocket.
