Everyone knows about Tom Thomson and The Group of Seven, but not many people know about the female painter who influenced Thomson’s style.
Florence Helena McGillivray was a Whitby artist alive during the late 1800’s and early 1900’s.
She traveled the world alone and painted portraits, landscapes and china before she passed away in 1938.
Florence taught Thomson how to paint and changed the Canadian Art Scene by bringing the Post-Impressionistic style she had learned in Europe back to Canada.
