Charges have been laid three months after the crash that killed 19-year-old UOIT student Rhyss Glenfield.
Zhijie Ye, 18, of King City has been charged with careless driving causing death and is set to appear in court in April, according to Durham Regional Police.
Police have not said whether Ye is a student at UOIT or DC.
The accident occurred on Nov. 14, 2018 around 3:30 p.m. at the corner of Simcoe Street and Conlin Road in Oshawa.
Media relations officer Const. George Tudos said investigations of this nature can be lengthy.
“There’s a lot of information in an investigation that has to be done,” he said, adding that officers must have “proper grounds before laying a serious offence.”
A Toyota RAV4 traveling southbound hit the median and struck Glenfield as he was walking across the street, according to police.
Glenfield was in his first year of the Gaming Development and Entrepreneurship program at UOIT.
