Busy week in sports upcoming for DC, UOIT

This week sees the Durham Lords and UOIT Ridgebacks hit the road for a variety of sports. Here’s a look at what’s in store for them.

Durham Lords:

The women’s volleyball team puts its five game winning streak on the line Wednesday night when they face the Georgian Grizzlies (2-3) in Barrie. The Lords (5-0) currently sit in second place in the OCAA East standings, behind Canadore College (6-0), and a win will put the Lords into a tie for first.

Also on Wednesday, the men’s volleyball team joins the women in Barrie to face the Grizzlies (4-1). Durham is currently 1-4 and sit in eighth place in the OCAA East standings, six spots behind the Grizzlies.

On Friday, the women’s basketball team hosts the Algonquin Thunder (4-1). Durham is 4-2 and are currently in third place in the east, two spots behind the Thunder.

The date of the postponed OCAA rugby game between Durham and Georgian, originally scheduled for last Saturday, is likely to be announced Tuesday.

UOIT Ridgebacks:

The men’s hockey team will spend this weekend in Trois-Rivieres, Que. to face the UQTR Patriotes (6-5-0) Friday and Saturday. The Ridgebacks are 7-4-1 and two spots ahead of the Patriotes in fourth place in the OUA east standings. UOIT averages three and half goals per game.

As for women’s hockey, the team will travel to North Bay Friday to face the Nipissing Lakers (6-3-0). The Ridgebacks are 3-5-1 and sit in 10th place overall, five spots behind the Lakers. Then on Saturday the women are in Sudbury to play the Laurentian Voyageurs (3-3-3), currently four spots ahead of the Ridgebacks.
