Busy sporting weekend for Lords, Ridgebacks

The Durham College Lords and the UOIT Ridgebacks have a busy sporting weekend ahead of them.

On Thursday, Nov. 1, Durham men’s and women’s volleyball teams host the Loyalist Lancers. The women play at 6 p.m. and the men at 8 p.m. Both games are in the gym. The men are seeking their first win of the season, starting 0-3, while the women are unbeaten at 3-0.

The men’s and women’s basketball teams are at Seneca Friday night, both games are in North York. The men are 1-2 to start the season, while the women are 2-1.

Finally, the Lords men’s rugby team will play the St. Lawrence Vikings in Game 1 of the OCAA semi-finals. The teams have met twice before this season. On Sept. 1, the Vikings won 41-29, but the Lords took the second match 29-23 on Sept. 22. Both semi-final matches take place Saturday, Nov. 3 at 1 p.m. The winner of the Lords-Vikings match will play either the Algonquin Thunder or the Georgian Grizzlies.

The UOIT Ridgebacks are also in action on several fronts.

The men’s hockey team has a couple of home games.

On Friday, Nov. 2, Ridgebacks, 4-3-1 on the season, play the 2-5-0 Nipissing Lakers at 7:30 p.m. at the Campus Ice Centre.

On Saturday, they play the Laurentian Voyageurs, 2-5-0, also at 7:30 p.m.

Meanwhile, UOIT’s women’s hockey team (2-3-1) is playing the Queen’s Gaels (4-2-0) at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 3, also in Oshawa.

The badminton team is playing Sunday, Nov. 4. Both the men’s and women’s team will be playing the Queen’s Gaels. The matches will take place in the CRWC, but there is no start time as of this writing.
