A former UOIT Ridgebacks men’s hockey player is now getting paid to play as a professional.
Nate Mitton, 26, is playing for the Cincinnati Cyclones in the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL), an affiliate team of the Buffalo Sabres.
Mitton, a Kitchener native, is a forward and played for the Ridgebacks from 2013-2017, scoring nine goals and 20 assists in his time with the team.
“I am proud to be a Ridgeback alumni. I feel a responsibility to carry on a legacy and open new doors for future and current students,” he told the UOIT Ridgebacks website.
He graduated in 2017 from the Honours Criminology with Youth Justice Specialization program at UOIT. Mitton started in the Southern Professional Hockey League in the 2017-18 season with the Birmingham Bulls, scoring eight goals in 31 games.
In early 2018 Mitton was called up to the ECHL to play for the Utah Grizzlies.
Mitton also trains and coaches athletes at Athlete Farm Training, in Brantford, Ont. with fellow UOIT alumnus Luke VanMoerkerke.
