High school students are hard at work getting ready for the 9th annual UOIT Engineering Robotics Competition.
With ‘Return of the SUMOBOTS’ in full swing, students will be participating in the competition on Nov. 29, in the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre from noon to five p.m. This event is open to the public.
Students participated in preliminary rounds with their sumobots, each measuring 20 cm X 20 cm in size, gaining points for their teams. The higher the points each team has means a first pick for spots for the playoffs.
Around 30 student-comprised teams from all over Ontario are participating in this competition, creating the sumobots from LEGO pieces and computer programs.
Prizes will be awarded to the top six finishers, including a special award for women in engineering.
