The Michael Starr building in downtown Oshawa was evacuated Wednesday morning as an unknown substance was found.

Durham Regional Police Services (DRPS) and Oshawa Fire Service responded to the scene. There were no injuries.

“We are still investigating right now,” said Sergeant Bill Calder of the DRPS.

Samples of the substance must be sent to the lab to determine what the substance is, he said.

“We work in conjunction with the fire department and there has been abilities to retrieve the unknown substance,” Sgt. Calder said.

The seven-floor building, at 33 King St. W., is home to the Client Services branch and Tax Information Centre for the Ontario Ministry of Finance.
